Social, Environmental and General Education (SIP010)
A project that supported the development of an ICT infrastructure in a number of small, rural primary schools, trained teachers in ICT and engaged students in cross-curricular collaborative projects.

Project Aims
  • To support the development of an ICT infrastructure in a selected number of small, rural primary schools.
  • To raise the ICT skills of the teachers in these schools.
  • To engage students from the primary schools in working collaboratively with students from the community school on project work. Project themes include Social, Environmental and General Education, with the specific topics being researched including the environment, wind farms, plant life, sport, foclóir/history and industry.
  • To raise the profile of ICT as a teaching and learning tool.
Indicative Outcomes
  • Development of a support model for rural primary schools that can be replicated nationally.
  • Development of teaching resources in the areas explored in the project work.
  • Evaluation of the educational value of collaborative activity between primary and post-primary students.
