Electronic Archive of the Local Area (SIP054)
This project focused on historical sites and geographical features of the locality with participating schools creating content for a local website.

  • To promote 'virtual' education.

  • To promote autonomous learning.
  • To base learning on 'investigative methodology'.
  • To identify the criteria for designing a project.
  • To recognise 'good practice' in website design.
  • To establish an interconnectedness among local feeder primary schools and lead post-primary school.
  • To facilitate an easier transition from primary to post-primary.
  • To establish international links with schools.
  • To develop a more cosmopolitan focus to learning.
  • To meet the changing demands of an evolving society where ICT is an integral part.
Indicative Outcomes
  • Creation of a website for the locality.
  • Greater understanding of the importance of good website design.
  • Increased proficiency in the use of ICT.
  • Increased awareness of the benefits of collaborative work.
  • Acquisition of knowledge regarding the potential of ICT in both teaching and learning.
  • Development of a 'sense of place'.
  • Primary school students to see the post-primary school as an extension of the learning process.
