line of stones

Millennium Project

Fadó, fadó..... well in October '99, we were in a quandary as to how to mark the Millennium. Hence the evolvement of our Millennium celebration project.

We asked the children to paint a picture, each one was then transferred to stone. These were positioned in a circle on the front lawn of the school. The theme for our circle of stones was Nature. The stones were collected over a period of time. The work progressed and we were delighted with all the birds, flowers and animals of all description that were produced. The infants painted hand and footprints. The children from St. Dominics Pre-school painted woodland animals. Spiders, butterflies, tigers and birds went down side by side around our school crest. Now when our children move on they know that they have left a memory in stone.

We enlisted the help of many generous people and local organisations. Northside Art and Culture Centre supplied special acrylic paint. The local Community Development Project provided us with artists.Special thanks to all our helpers and volunteers and to the local authorities who gave us permission to collect the stones and Dublin Corporation who laid a path all around the Millennium Circle.

Some of the finished stones, painted and varnished, ready for placement outside.

Stones placed around the school crest.
