Scoil An Spioraid Naoimh

Roxborough,

Ballysheedy,

Co. Limerick.

Founded in 1889 by a local businessman Mr. Alexander Shaw, the school's initial enrolment of 63 pupils has now grown to 275. We are a co-educational primary school situated about three miles outside Limerick city. There are now thirteen teachers in the school, ten in mainstream teaching, one resource teacher, a shared learning support teacher and an adminstrative principal. The school has eight classrooms, a general purpose room and we are in the process of adding two new classrooms.

The school prides itself on the broad curriculum which is taught. We aim to provide quality education and instill a love of learning which will remain with the child for life. We are hugely supported by the whole school community in these efforts. Our ethos is about openness and community and not about control and indoctrination.

Over the past fifteen years our school has shown a keen interest in the area of ICT. Students begin using computers in junior infants. The pupils utilise computers as a support tool in a managed learning environment focussed on students constructing knowledge for themselves. Our expertise has been recognised in a national way by being accorded the status of a 'Magnet School'.

Scoil An Spioraid Naoimh reflects the values of the community it serves. Our parents are interested in Education and the stages their children go through in the process of learning. Towards this end the school strives to keep abreast of educational developments and change and many of our staff have pursued further education.
