Local history project by pupils of St. Patrick's B.N.S, Castlebar

How did we learn best about the story of 1798 in Mayo? Putting on the play  really helped us to understand a lot more about 1798; how the soldiers were dressed, their weapons, the route they took etc.

"Our Class is currently taking part in a play about the 1798 rebellion in Castlebar.  We have done several rehearsals but we have a lot to add to it. The play is supposed to be a news report and  there is a news reporter who will be at all the famous places from Killala to Ballina then down the windy gap to Castlebar where we will have a battle just like what happened in 1798. We will have video clips of the play in a future update."

How were we dressed for the play?

We were able to get some really good soldier costumes from somebody in Killala. We looked like real rebels and soldiers. You can see our costumes by clicking on the link above.
