Local history project by pupils of St. Patrick's B.N.S, Castlebar

How did people travel around without cars at the turn of the century? Most people had to either walk or take a ride on a horse (if they were lucky enough to own a horse) or on a donkey, like the child in this picture taken in 1904 in Castlebar. Donkeys were cheaper to buy but they were much slower.
How many windows and doors are there in Turlough Park House?

There was a rumour there were 365 windows, one for every day of the year, and 52 doors, one for each week. Well, ALMOST! Andrew's father, who lived there with his family until 1991, counted the windows himself - 372 windows and fifty five doors altogether!

Turlough Park House, situated four miles from Castlebar, is to be opened shortly as the national folklife museum.

How did we find out about the Church of the Holy Rosary and all the things in it? We went over to the church and Father Francis told us and awful lot about the church and let us examine all the chalices and holy things there.
