                                        Freddy and Andy

At the front of the new Garda station in Castlebar there are two stone lions. Their names are Freddy and Andy. They were carved out in London and they were brought over in the seventeen hundreds. They were originally from Brown’s of Balla but they were missing for years. In 1995 the new station was built, it took a year and a half to build.  There are 61 members of Gardaí in Castlebar. There are 13 sergeants, 1 superintendent and 1 chief superintendent. The Garda station was the barracks for the British army.
