winners. Dalkey School Project N.S. won first prize in the Dun
Laoghaire/Rathdown Environmental Awards. They put much work and effort into this
competition. Here is an account they wrote on the stone wall they made.
Stone Wall
On
Wednesday the 3rd of May we started building the stone wall with
Steve. He showed us what kind of stones to pick. We had to bring old clothes, it
was really hot and we all put on sun cream. We made piles of good stones and bad
stones. Then the boys made a dry stone wall on the ditch behind our stone wall.
We
used cement and sand, which the boys mixed. The girls brought the stones over to
the stone wall. Steve said the girls
were better than the boys.
We
were working on the project for three days. Some of our parents helped us.
Five
of our parents helped to build the stone wall and after two nights the job was
done and there was mushroom compost topsoil and old silage in the middle. The
County Council came and they put tar and stones around the stone wall and the
parking area
They
put flowers in the middle. We really liked
the colours
of the flowers. It makes the school look better It was great fun building the
stone wall. We entered the E.S.B. Primary School Environmental Awareness Awards.
We came 2nd in the competition. We won £200
The finished product.
