Ballina National School.

* In 1831 the National School System was introduced in Ireland.

*In September 1842 Fr. William Byrne P.P. Ballina, applied for funding under the new system. This was granted on October 27 th 1842. There were 150 pupils on roll. (100 Boys and 50 Girls).

*The present school was built in 1955. It was a three-teacher school. The teachers then were Mr. Dillion (the principal), Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Fahy.

*This school is about a hundred yards from "the old school "which is now the Community Hall.

*Derrycastle Model Farm (National School) was amalgamated with Ballina N.S. in 1968 and Mrs Nellie Molamphy began teaching in Ballina N.S.

*Mr. Kevin Griffin was Principal at this time (1966-1994).

*In the late 1970s, under the manger Fr. Kelly and Fr. Morrissey P.P the new extension to the school was built.

* Now in Ballina National School there are 197 pupils.

*There are 9 teachers in our school which include a resource teacher and a learning support teacher. We have a part time secretary and a classroom assistant.

*We have an Easter Bonnet Competition in the school each year

*Our dancing teacher Mrs. Hogan comes to the school every Friday and we put on a display in the Lakeside Hotel at the end of the school year.

*The proceeds of our Nativity Play at Christmas go to a different Charity each year.

*Computer classes and Speech and Drama classes are available to pupils after school.

*Senior classes take part in the MS Readathon each year and the Book Fair comes to the school also.

*We do projects and take part in competitions.

*Every classroom now has a computer.

*We planted shrubs and flowers in front of the school.

*We won the North Tipperary final in hurling last year. Unfortunately we were beaten in the County Final.
