Schools Integration Project No. 052

The use of hand held technology in teaching Science

This project was led by Sutton Park school as part of the IT 2000 SIP initiative and funded by the National Centre for technology in Education

The aim of the project was to evaluate the appropriateness of hand held data loggers within the context of the Irish Science curriculum

In September 2000, this project was presented to the department of Education and Science.

In January 2001, the department of Education and Science awarded capital grants of IR£6,500 to each school in Ireland to purchase datalogging equipment.

Inservice in the use of this equipment is being carried out by the Physics and Chemistry support service

The use of hand held technology offers teachers access to small portable machines that can be used to improve teaching and learning across a wide range of age and ability.
