PROJECT
2.
DISCUSSION ON AND ANALYSIS OF A TOPIC USING RECORDINGS OF THE
TG4 NEWS AND E-MAIL
AIM:
· To improve the students'
vocabulary on various topics.
· To improve the students' oral and written abilities in the
Irish language using video recordings and e-mail.
PREPARATION
1. The first thing you need
to do in order to start on this project is to contact the language
centre in Maynooth. Ionad na dTeangacha Ollscoil na hÉireann

2. You will receive an information pack. If you are happy to
go ahead with the project you will need to fill in a short application
form and you will send this, along with the cost of the project
(£100), to the language centre.
3. Once you have registered with the centre in Maynooth, you
will receive a user name and password, which will be used to
access information. |

METHOD USED
4. Record the 6.30 news
from TG4 on the outlined dates. (A list of these dates will
be forwarded to you when you register).
5. The following afternoon, information questions and exercises
based on the news piece will be made available to you. This
may be accessed via e-mail or by logging on to the relevant
web site.
6. If you so wish, the students could work through the questions
and exercises at individual computers but this is not necessary.
A much easier option is the following:
(a) Save all the information to a folder somewhere on the hard
drive. (b) Print it out.
(c) In class, the students are shown the relevant piece of news
(It usually lasts for 4-5 minutes).
(d) Having listened to the news piece the students then work
through the various exercises, based on what they have heard.
