Criteria
for Class
The
aim of this class was to familiarise students with the Windows environment,
while focusing on producing a Songbook, suitable for 1st Year students.
Collaboration took place between the Music teacher and the Computer
teacher. The Music teacher supplied printouts of suitable songs.
Students typed out these songs and in the process learned how to
make Folders and store and retrieve their work.
Diary
of Classes
Jan
8
Students
created a Folder on the c: drive for their work. Each student typed
the words of a song in Word. They also learned how to include a
Page Border in their file. Each student printed her file.
Jan
15
Students
retrieved their work from the previous week and learned how to insert
Clipart. A lot of time was spent explaining and demonstrating the
concept of wrapping text around the Picture
Jan
22
Students
learned how to share Files over the Network. Students accessed the
Internet to find suitable Clipart for the songs they had typed the
previous weeks.
Jan
29
Students
expressed a wish to hear some music. The class experimented with
downloading music from www.mp3.com. This proved to be very time
consuming. Eventually about ten songs were downloaded.
Feb
5
The
Music teacher came to the Computer class. The lyrics of the songs
were displayed on a screen via the Data Projector. As the downloaded
songs were played the students sang. Though the Music teacher was
impressed with the display of text on the overhead screen, she was
very disappointed with the quality of the music. This was due to
the fact that the machines only had Windows Media player, which
she found to be toy-like.
Feb
19
Students
continued to work in pairs to produce the booklet. Eventually two
nice booklets were produced. The idea of saving the downloaded music
to a CD was abandoned due to lack of satisfaction with the quality.
Scarborough
Fair.
Are
you going to Scarborough Fair?
Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme;
Remember me to one who lives there,
for she was once a true love of mine.
Tell
her to make me a cambric shirt,
Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme;
Without any seam or needle work,
Then she'll be a true love of mine.
Tell
her to wash it in yonder dry well,
Parsley, sage. Rosemary and thyme;
Where water ne'er sprung, nor deep of rain fell,
And then she'll be a true love of mine.
Tell
her to dry it on yonder thorn,
Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme;
Which ever bore blossom since Adam was born,
And then she'll be a true loye of mine.
O,
will you find me an acre of land,
Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme;
Between the sea foam and the sea sand,
Or never be a true lover of mine.
O,
will you plough it with one lamb's horn,
Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme,
And sow it all over with one peppercorn,
Or never be a true lover of mine.
O,
will you reap it with a sickle of leather,
Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme;
And tie it up with a peacock's feather,
Or never be a true lover of mine.
And
when you have done and finished your work,
Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme;
Then come to me for your cambric shirt,
And you shall be a true love of mine.
Blowin
in the Wind.
How many roads must a man walk down
Before you can call him a man?
Yes 'n' how many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
Yes 'n' how many times must the cannon balls fly
Before they're forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.
How
many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
Yes 'n' how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear the people cry?
Yes 'n' how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer my friend is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.
How
many years can a mountain exist
Before it's washed to the sea?
Yes 'n' how many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free?
Yes 'n' how many times can a man turn his head
Pretending he just doesn't see?
The answer, my friend is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.
Be still my Soul
Be
still my soul, The Lord is always near thee,
Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain.
Leave to thy God to comfort and to cheer thee,
In every change he faithful remains.
Be still my soul, thy Heav'nly Friend will steer thee,
Through thorny ways to His own do main.
Be
still my soul, thy God has under taken,
To be thy guide as always in the past.
Thy hope, thy fear, let nothing ever shake it,
All things unknown shall be known at last.
Be still my soul, the winds and waters still know,
He who rules them while He dwelt below.
CHRIS DE BURGH (BORN 1948) -
A SPACEMAN CAME TRAVELLING
A
SPACE MAN CAME TRAVELLING ON HIS SHIP FROM AFAR,
'TWAS LIGHT YEARS OF TIME SINCE HIS MISSON DID START
AND OVER A VILLAGE HE HALTED HIS CRAFT
AND IT HUNG IN THE SKY LIKE A STAR JUST LIKE A STAR
HE
FOLLOWED A LIGHT AND CAME TO A SHED WHERE A MOTHER AND CHILD WERE
LYING ON A BED
A BRIGHT OF SILVER SHONE ROUNG HIS HEAD,
AND HE HAD THE FACE OF AN ANGELAND THEY WERE AFRAID
THEN
THE STRANGER SPOKE HE SAID "DO NOT FEAR I COME FROM A PLANET
A LONG WAY FROM HERE
AND I BRING A MESSAGE FOR HMAN KIND TO HEAR,"
AND SUDDENLY THE SWEE TEST MUSIC FILLES THE AIR.
AND IT WENT LA, LA, LA, LA, LA, LA, LA, LA, LA,LA, LA, LA, LA, LA,
LA, LA, LA, LA, LA, LA, LA, LA, LA, LA, LA, LA, LA,
PEACE AND GOOD WILL TO ALL MEN AND LOVE FOR THE CHILD.
LA, LA, LA, LA, LA, LA, LA, LA, LA, LA, LA,
LA, LA, LA, LA, LA, LA, LA,
LA, LA, LA, LA, LA, LA, LA, LA, LA, LA,
PEACE AND GOOD WILL TO ALL MEN.
THIS
AND LOVE FOR THE CHILD.
OH THE WHOLE WORLD IS WAITING
WAITING FOT THAT SONG AGAIN
THERE ARE THOUSANDS STANDING ON THE EDGE OF THE WORLD
AND A STARIS MOVING SOME WHERE,
THE TIME IS NEARLY HERE
THIS SONG WILL BEGIN ONCE AGAIN
TO A BABY'S CRY.
THIS
LONELY MUSIC WENT TREMBLING THROUGHTHE GROND,
AND MANY WERE WAKENED ON HEARING SOUND,
AND TRAV'LES ON THE ROAD THE VILLAGE THEY FOUND,
BY THE LIGHT OF THAT SHIP IN THE SKY WHICH SHONE ALL AROUND.
AND
JUST BEFORE DAWN AT THE SKY,
THE STRANGER RETURNED AND SAID NOW I MUST FLY,
WHEN TWO THOUSAND YEARS OF YOUR TIME HAS GONE BY,
THE SONG WILL BEGIN ONCE AGAIN TO A BABY'S CRY.
Edel Weiss
Edel
wisses, Edel weiss,
Every morning you greet me.
Small and white, clean and bright,
You look happy to meet me.
Blossom
of snow may you bloom and grow,
Bloom and grow forever
Edel
weiss, Edel weiss,
Bless my homeland forever.
George
Gershwin.
Summer.
Summer time an' the livin' is easy,
Fish are jumpin',
an' the cotton is high.
Oh yo' daddy's rich,
An' yo' ma is good lookin',
So hush, little baby,
Don' yo' cry.
One
of these mornin's
You goin' to rise up singin,
Then you'll spread yo' wings
An' you'll take the sky.
But till mornin'
There's a nothin'can harm you
With daddy an' mammy standin' by.
Paul McCartney.
Hey Jude.
Hey
Jude don't make it bad
take a sad song and make it better.
Remember to let it into your heart,
then you can start to make it better.
Hey
Jude don't be afraid
you were made to go and get her.
The minute you let her into your skin ,
then you begin to make it better.
Hey
Jude don't let me down,
you have found now go and get her.
Remember to let her into your heart,
then you can start to make it better.
And
any time you feel the pain,
Hey Jude, Refrain,
don't carry the world upon your shoulders.
For
now you know that it's a fool
who plays it cool by making
his world a little colder.
Da da da da da da da da da da .
So
let it out and let it in,
Hey Jude , Begin you're waiting
for some one to perform with.
And
don't you know that it's just you,
Hey Jude you'll do.
The movement you need
is on your shoulder.
Da da da da da da da da da da.
Johannes Brahams.
Cradle Song.
As I bid thee "Good-night",
Bright stars shed their light;
The roses dew deep,
Their heads hide in sleep.
When the dawning shall break
All the earth shall awake,
When the dawning shall break
All the earth shall awake.
As
I bid thee "Good - night",
The Angels of light
Draw close round thy nest
To guard thee I rest.
Slumber softly, my love,
In the dream-land above,
Slumber softly, my love,
In the dream-land above.
PACK UP YOUR TROUBLES
It's
a long way to Tipperary,
It's a long way to Tipperary,
To the sweetest girl I know!
Goodbye piccadildy,
Farewell Leicester square.
It's a long, long way to Tipperary
But my heart's right there!
Pack
u your troubles In your old kit bag,
And smile, smile, smile,
While you've Lucifer to light your fag,
Smile boys, that's the style,
What's the use of worrying?
It never was worth while,
So pack up your troubles in your old kit bag.
And smile, smile, smile.
Raindrops Keep Fallin' on my Head
Raindrops
keep fallin' on my head,
and just like the guy whose
feet are too big for his bed;
no-thing seems to fit.
Those raindrops are fallin' on my head.
They keep falling.
So
I just did me some talkin' to the sun.
And I said I didn't like the way he got things done.
Sleepin' on the job those raindrops are fallin' on my head.
They keep falling!
But
there's one thing I know, the blues they send to meet me won't defeat
me.
It won't be long 'till happiness steps up to greet me.
Raindrops
keep fallin' on my head, but that doesn't mean my eyes will soon
be turnin' red.
Cryin's not for me 'cause I'm never gonna stop the rain by complainin'.
Because I'm free, nothings worryin' me.
Better Man.
Robbie Williams.
Send
someone to love me
I need to rest in arms
Keep safe from
in pouring rain
Give
me endless summer
lord I fear the cold
feel I'm getting old
before my time
As
my soul heals the shame
I will grow through this pain
Lord im doing all I can
To be a better man
Go
easy on my conscience
'cause its not my fault
I know I've been taught
To take the blame
Rest
assured my angels
Will catch my tears
Walk me out of here
As
my soul heals the shame
I will grow through this pain
Lord im doin all I can
To be I better man
Once
you've found that lover
You're homeward bound
Love is all around
Love is all around
I
know some have fallen
On stony ground
But love is all around.
Don't look back in anger.
Noel Gallagher.
Slip
inside the eye of your mind,
don't you know you might find a better place to play?
You said that you've never been.
But all the things that you've seen slowly fade away.
So I start a revolution from my bed,
'cause you said the brains I had went to my head.
Step outside summertime's in bloom.
Stand up beside the fireplace.
Take that look from off your face,
you ain't ever gonna burn my heart out.
So sally can wait, she knows it's too late.
As we're walking on by her soul slides away.
But don't look back in anger,I heard you say,say ,say.
So sally can wait, she knows it's too late.
As she's walking on by, my soul slides away.
But don't look back in anger, don't look back in anger,
I heard you say,its not too late.
Take
me to the place where you go
Where nobody knows if it's night or day.
Please don't put your life in the hands
Of a rock 'n' roll band who'll throw it all away.
I'm gonna start a revolution from my bed,
'cause you said the brains I had went to my head.
Step outside,the summertime's in bloom,
Stand up beside the fireplace, take that look from off your face,
'cause you ain't never gonna burn my heart out.
Do-re-mi
Start
at the very beginning
A very good place to start
When you read you begin with A,B,C
When you sing you begin with do, re, mi
Do, re, mi?
Do,
re, mi , the first three notes just happen
Be do, re, mi.Do, re, mi!
Do-re-mi-fa-so-la-ti.
Doe- a deer, a female deer,
Ray-
a drop of golden sun,
Me- a name I call myself,
Fa- a long, long way to run,
Sew- a needle pulling thread,
La- a note to follow sew,
Tea- a drink with jam and bread
That brings us back to do-oh-oh-oh.
Streets of London.
Have
you seen the old man
in the closed down market,
Kicking up the papers
with his worn out shoes?
In his eyes you see no pride,
hand held loosely by his side,
Yesterday's papers
telling yesterday's news.
So how can you
tell me your lonely
And say for you
that the sun don't shine?
Let me take you by the hand
and lead you through
the streets of London,
I'll show you something
to make you change your mind.
Swing Low Sweet Chariot.
CHORUS:
Swing low, sweet chariot,
coming for to carry me home.
Swing low, sweet chariot,
coming for to carry me home.
I
look'd over Jorden,and what did I see,
coming for the carry me home.
A band of angels coming after me,
coming for to carry me home.
If
you get there before I do,
coming for to carry me home.
Tell all my friends I'm coming too,
coming for to carry me home.
The Swanee River
Way
down up on the
Swanee River Far, far away
There's were my heart is turning ever ,
there's where the old folks stay.
All up and down the old creation,
Sadly I roam,
Still longing for the old plantation,
and for the old folks at home.
All
round the little farm I wandered,
When I was young.
Then many happy days I squander'd,
Many the songs I sung.
When I was playing with my brother,
Happy was I,
Oh, take me to my kind old mother,
There let me live and die.
Chorus
All the world is sad and dreary,
every where I roam,
Oh darkies how my heart grows weary,
far from old folks at home.
One
little hut among the bushes,
One that I love,
Still sadly on my mem'ry rushes,
No matter I rove,
When will I see the bees a humming,
All round the comb,
When will I hear the banjo strumming,
Down in my good old home?
Why should a woman
Why
should a woman who is healthy and strong
Blabber like a baby if her man goes away?
A weepin' and awailing' how he's done her wrong,
That's one thing you'll never hear me say!
Never gonna think that the man I lose
is the only man among men.
I'll snap my fingers to show I don't care,
I'll buy me a brand new dress to wear,
I'll scrub my neck and I'll brush my hair,
And start all over again.
Many
a new face will please my eye,
Many a new love will find me,
Never've I once looked back
to sigh over the romance behind me,
Many a new day will dawn before I do!
Many a light lad may kiss and fly,
You've Got a Friend in me.
Carole King.
When
you're down and troubled and you need some love and care.
And nothin', nothin' is goin' right,
Close your eyes and think of me and soon I will be there
To brihgten up even your darkest night.
You just call out my name and you know wherever I am.
I'll come runnin' to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you have to do is call and I'll be there.
You've got a friend.
If
the sky above you grows dark and full of clouds.
And that ol' north wind begins to blow,
Keep your head together and call my name out loud;
Soon you'll hear me knockin'at your door.
You just call out my name and you know whereverI am.
I'll come runnin' to see you again.
Winter, spring. Summer or fall
All you have to do is call and I'll be there.
You've got a friend.
There,
yes, I will.
Now ain't it good to know that you've got a friend ,
When people can be so cold?
They'll hurt you, yes, and desert you
And take your soul if you let them.
Oh, but don't you let them.
You just call there, yes, I will.
You've got a friend.
You've got a friend.
Ain't it good to know you've got a friend.
