SUMMARY

It is intended for teachers and pupils to use Hyperstudio and Illuminatus in the senior classes (4th - 6th) for creating multimedia presentations and interactive presentations. Children in the Sixth class are already familiar with using Hyperstudio and it is hoped to build on the skills learned in this programme and comparing/contrasting both programmes. Children will start with Hyperstudio before moving on to Illuminatus.

Children will be active participants in the project, not only in the all important planning and researching stage, but also in creating interactive multimedia publications. Feedback from the children to the teacher and to each other will be an important element in the project.

It is also intended that teachers would use the programme to create their own interactive assessments based on work done in the classrooms with the children. Children will be active participants in evaluating the assessments and suggesting ways of improving same.We would also hope to publish work to Scoilnet using Illuminatus.

ANTICIPATED RESULTS

  • Teachers and pupils will become proficient in the use of Hyperstudio and Illuminatus.
  • The teaching and learning in the classrooms will have been enhanced through participation in the project.
  • Many resources for the teaching of e.g. Geography or History will have been created and these could be then shared with other teachers and other schools.
  • The important elements in Illuminatus will be identified and these could then be put together as a "manual" to help other teachers/pupils become familiar with the programme.
  • Once the elements mentioned above are identified these could then be passed on to other teachers and schools by way of courses and/or Scoilnet, seminars etc by the teachers involved in the project.
  • A Research document - outlining the benefits of using Illuminatus and Hyperstudio in the classroom with children, the advantages/disadvantages of both, how they may compliment each other etc.
